How to Improve a Long Drive With Kids
Taking a long drive with the kids? Here’s a super cute idea we did with ours when they were young. We used paper lunch bags and labeled each with the name of a state. We had one of each state per child. In each bag, we printed a picture of the state flag, bird, and flower for the kids to color. We googled coloring pages, or you could use the Crayola Color App to convert photos - that would let you side by side a full color image with coloring image, so the kids would know what colors to use. If there were any prominent facts about the state that would be particularly interesting to the kids, we would add those too.
The first bag had some crayons for them to use throughout the drive. We made sure to put some kind of snack or treat in each bag, too, so they really looked forward to opening them.
By doing this, they would learn a little about each state while we were driving through. We would also use the time to talk about some of the things in that state that happened historically. Or we would talk about times we visited there in the past and what we did while there. We would also look for license plates from the state and talk about what they look like and what they said and why.
This was a really fun way to pass the time and also teach the kids a little bit about the country. It also was an opportunity for us to talk together and create memories. I hope you have some fun on your next road trip!
